| 2 January 2010 | My first, albeit modest update for the New Year has been to refine the Flight Period chart, taking into account the trend towards earlier emergence due to global warming and my recent experiences in Hampshire. Of course flight periods are still very dependent on the vagaries of individual seasons, so this can only be a guide. |

The update to the Hampshire Butterfly Sites page and the individual site features has been completed. The main changes during the last few weeks are summarised as follows: - Additional site features on Broughton Down and New Forest (Wootton Coppice) have been added. Site feature on New Forest (East Inclosures) has been refined and expanded to include New Copse. Whiteley Pastures and Lymington-Keyhaven no longer have site feataures (only one priority species) but remain listed on butterfly sites page with expanded entries. - Roydon Woods added to list of butterfly sites. Other entries on butterfly sites page reviewed and wording refined where necessary to reflect evolving poulations. - Minor editorial changes to many existing site features, with more major ones implemented in respect of Farley Mount Country Park, Browndown, Old Winchester Hill and Shipton Bellinger, reflecting evolving poulations and locations. |

1. Update on site features: The review and update to the site features pages is progressing steadily with some refinements to location details based on recent years' experiences. Site features updated include Shipton Bellinger, Browndown and Old Winchester Hill. One casualty of the review however, is the Lymington-Keyhaven Nature Reserve, which is retained as a listed site but no longer has a site feature (only one priority species - Wall Brown). 2. A link has been added to an excellent independent website on Alice Holt Forest. The link appears at the bottom of the Alice Holt Forest site feature page and also on the Links page. |
