30 March 2008

I am in the process of creating a series of embedded flash slideshows, to replace many of the single images on the butterfly species pages. These should prove useful as an aid to identification where the sexes differ significantly and to provide underside and upperside views. A number of species will remain as single images (e.g. where the sexes are very similar or where the upperside view is seen only in flight) and in a few cases where I do not have suitable images. I have already uploaded the embedded flash slideshows for the Browns - click here and will do the same for the other species pages during the next week.

24 March 2008

Single images on Home page (Purple Emperor) and Hampshire Butterfly Species intro page (Pearl-bordered Fritillary) replaced by embedded flash slideshows. I may make greater use in future of these mini-slideshows on the Species pages (e.g. to show male/female/underside views for instance) so feedback welcome via contacts page.

21 March 2008

Blog entry - "First Reconnaissance Of Spring". Please note also that during the next couple of weeks I will be decommissioning, one at a a time, the 2007 Photo Galleries in preparation for the new season. The 2007 Season Highlights Gallery will be retained.

7 March 2008

New page added on Butterfly "Code of Practice" prepared with contributions from several butterfly enthusiasts and accompanied by a blog entry of the same title. Please help to safeguard our butterfly populations by following the code.
